Studio Museum in Harlem

The Summer 2023 intern will work on projects to support The Studio Museum in Harlem’s permanent collection. This includes contributing alternative text descriptions of artworks and exhibition installation images to increase accessibility for the visually impaired.
Intern Responsibilities:
Researching artist biographical data; and compiling lists of artists that were featured in former exhibitions.
The intern will contribute to the exhibition listing resource that will allow for deep engagement with an understanding of mission-specific artists and exhibitions happening worldwide.
Additionally, the Arts Intern will have the opportunity to write brief artist biographies that will be featured on the Museum’s website.
By working closely with the Curatorial team in developing these materials for the Museum’s website, the intern will exercise visual description of exhibition installation images.
Become familiar with artists in the collection and the Museum’s exhibition history.
Qualifications:
Excellent writing, research, and communication skills
Knowledge of artists of African descent
Proficiency with Microsoft Office365
Able to handle multiple projects at once and work independently and as part of a team
Familiarity with and interest in The Studio Museum in Harlem’s mission and history
Interns will work onsite 28 hours per week and attend a mandatory offsite program day one day per week with their cohort.
Interns must be available for the duration of the program.

Total Weeks: 9 weeks
Work Hours per Week: 28
Total Hours: 252
Workdays: 4 days per week onsite
PROGRAM DAY:
On the 5th day of each week, interns will attend an offsite program day with their cohort.
These hours are separate from the internship hours.
