The Arts Intern will work with Rainey’s Arts Education Team in delivering our annual Summer Arts Camps, focusing primarily on instruction and instructional support in the camp’s Visual Arts classes and activities. Camps run from June 5 - June 23, and July 3 - August 4, 2023 and will engage 3rd-8th grade campers in a full-day experience, inclusive of arts classes, community service projects, outdoor/indoor recreation, field trips, and other special events and activities.

The Arts Intern will work directly with Rainey’s Visual Arts Program Manager and Teaching Artists to provide daily instruction in morning and afternoon arts classes. This internship experience will provide learning opportunities in the areas of lesson planning, classroom management, program and exhibit coordination, assistant teaching, as well as lead teaching, and youth development in general.

Intern Responsibilities:

  • Preparing class supplies and materials.

  • Reviewing lesson plans prior to classes and evaluating classes afterward.

  • Supporting teaching artists with classroom.

  • Management and camper engagement.

  • Assisting campers with class work and projects.

  • Helping to coordinate and install a culminating exhibit of camper artwork at the conclusion of camp, and other related responsibilities.

  • The overarching project the intern will complete will be to plan, structure, instruct, and install an exhibition of campers’ work from a project they (the intern) design and lead.

  • This internship experience will provide learning opportunities in the areas of lesson planning, classroom management, program and exhibit coordination, assistant teaching, as well as lead teaching, and youth development in general.

Intern Requirements: 

  • Experience in film/videography/video editing would be a plus.

  • The intern will need skills, most specifically related to the creation of visual art — working with various art mediums, tools,

    supplies, etc.

  • The ability to assist teaching artists with classroom instruction and support students through their

    artistic process.

  • Additionally, strong verbal communication skills applicable to both adults and children.

  • A professional demeanor.

  • The ability to work supportively and collaboratively with the teaching faculty.

  • Attention to detail and punctuality.

  • Flexibility to work through sometimes shifting schedules are all desired skills for the intern.

Interns will work onsite 28 hours per week and attend a mandatory offsite program day one day per week with their cohort.

Interns must be available for the duration of the program.

INTERNSHIP DURATION:

  • Total Weeks: 9 weeks

  • Work Hours per Week: 28 

  • Total Hours: 252

  • Workdays: 4 days per week onsite

PROGRAM DAY:

  • On the 5th day of each week, interns will attend an offsite program day with their cohort.

  • These hours are separate from the internship hours.


Before applying, verify you...

  1. Will be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student. You must be a rising Junior or Senior as of June 2023.

  2. Attend a Cleveland college or university—or attend college elsewhere and are a permanent resident of Cleveland or the inner ring suburbs.
