Intern Responsibilities: 

  • The ICA is launching a new model for guided visits for visitors of all ages, as well as ways of working with teachers in 2023.

  • The Tours and Teacher Programs Intern will work closely with ICA education staff on the implementation and evaluation of summer tours programming for youth and adult audiences at the ICA’s Harbor Shore Drive location and the ICA Watershed in East Boston.

  • The Intern will also research and develop an online hub of resources for 2023-2024 school year exhibitions that thematically focus on the Caribbean diaspora for the educators who participate in guided and self-guided museum visits.

  • Over the course of the internship, the Tours and Teacher Programs Intern will gain experience and skills in gallery teaching, public speaking, art historical research, and program assessment.

  • The Intern will also participate in the day-to-day operations of an art museum’s education department including attendance at inter-and intra-departmental meetings.

The intern should have the following qualifications:

  • The Tours and Teacher Programs Intern will be studying art history, studio art, arts education, or related course of study (knowledge of contemporary art a plus) with a demonstrated interest in teaching or facilitation and comfort with public speaking.

  • Applicants should possess strong communication (written and oral), research, and organizational skills and be able to work both independently and in group settings.

  • Spanish language fluency a plus.

  • This position will require 28hours/week, Monday-Thursday and may include occasional weekend hours.

Interns will work onsite 28 hours per week and attend a mandatory offsite program day one day per week with their cohort.

Interns must be available for the duration of the program.

INTERNSHIP DURATION:

  • Total Weeks: 9 weeks

  • Work Hours per Week: 28 

  • Total Hours: 252

  • Workdays: 4 days per week onsite

PROGRAM DAY:

  • On the 5th day of each week, interns will attend an offsite program day with their cohort.

  • These hours are separate from the internship hours.
