Creating a Period Style Frame for a Cassone Panel.
The Conservation frame Intern will gain knowledge and understanding of the materials and techniques used when creating a new water gilded frame for a cassone panel by Francisco Toscani.
Intern Responsibilities:
The Intern will develop basic gilding skills and alongside the Frame Technician.
Help create a new frame for a painting in the CMA collection.
The intern will also learn how to fit the panel into the frame securely with specialty hardware.
The intern will have the opportunity to experience the everyday workings in the CMA conservation department.
Shadow the conservation frame technician when preparing works of art for loan such as glazing, insert backings, hardware and etc.
The intern will be expected to take notes in a daily journal, photo documentation and engage with a clear understanding of the gilding processes.
Intern Requirements:
The Intern will work on-site for 28 hours per week.
The intern should have a passion for learning new processes, working at an art museum and interest in art History.
The ideal intern should have an interest and skills in studio art making such as painting, drawing and sculpture.
Familiarity with hand tools.
Any gilding experience would be helpful but not necessary.
Interns will work onsite 28 hours per week and attend a mandatory offsite program day one day per week with their cohort.
Interns must be available for the duration of the program.

Total Weeks: 9 weeks
Work Hours per Week: 28
Total Hours: 252
Workdays: 4 days per week onsite
PROGRAM DAY:
On the 5th day of each week, interns will attend an offsite program day with their cohort.
These hours are separate from the internship hours.
