ArtsMemphis is the vehicle for contributors of all types to support the arts community. As the lead arts funder in the Mid-South, we serve as a convener and connector while building awareness for the arts and their impact. In 2023, ArtsMemphis will celebrate 60 years of operation and $90+ million invested in the Memphis community.
Intern Responsibilities:
The program intern will work with the COO to research a collection of art held by ArtsMemphis for a now-dissolved organization, to conduct an inventory, research contact information for represented artists, and help determine most efficient process of return of art works to artists.
A second project involves research into an art collection gifted to ArtsMemphis and held at the Metal Museum, to help determine the best approaches to storage and utilization of the collection.
This is a great opportunity for a student interested in learning some of the basic functions of art collections management with unique and challenging projects.
The best student candidate will be detail oriented, a clear communicator, diligent, process oriented and focused.
The intern will come away with an understanding of some of the basic tasks required in collections management, being an effective communicator and an introduction to project management.
Candidates should have the following skills:
Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
Commitment to detailed and accurate information documentation.
Interest in learning about arts collection management.
Familiarity with visual art production is a bonus.
Interns will work onsite 28 hours per week and attend a mandatory offsite program day one day per week with their cohort.
Interns must be available for the duration of the program.
INTERNSHIP DURATION:
Total Weeks: 9 weeks
Work Hours per Week: 28
Total Hours: 252
Workdays: 4 days per week onsite
PROGRAM DAY:
On the 5th day of each week, interns will attend an offsite program day with their cohort.
These hours are separate from the internship hours.
BEFORE APPLYING, VERIFY YOU:
1) Will be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student. You must be a rising Junior or Senior as of June 2023.
2) Reside or attend college/university in the city of Memphis
