The Art Museum of the University of Memphis (AMUM) is a museum of visual art and culture. AMUM serves the University and its region as a resource and laboratory for the study, interpretation, and presentation of the visual arts and the dissemination of artistic scholarly research. AMUM seeks a college student (either junior or senior) pursuing a career in museums or a related field to serve as a collections intern. The collections intern will work under the supervision of the AMUM Assistant Director to assist in overseeing the museum’s collections and complete the following tasks:
Intern Responsibilities:
Complete daily temperature/humidity readings.
Generate condition reports on 5 of the museum’s Samuel H. Crone paintings.
Generate condition reports and preservation reports for 5 objects within the African Art collection.
Adding temporary custody objects into our Past Perfect cataloging system.
Cleaning, inventory, and monitoring of collections in storage.
Developing social media content to be posted weekly on our Facebook and Instagram relating to the objects we have in our collection.
Assist in the organizing of the archival materials we have in our new storage room.
Qualifications:
The position requires knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
Applicants should have a genuine interest working with museum collections and assisting in the organizing of The University of Memphis requires all employees to successfully complete a criminal background check.
The collections intern will gain a unique range of skills that include working with and handling objects within the collections, networking with museum professionals, curators, and artists, and learning the ropes in museum registration.
Interns will work onsite 28 hours per week and attend a mandatory offsite program day one day per week with their cohort.
Interns must be available for the duration of the program.

Workdays: 4 days per week onsite
PROGRAM DAY:
On the 5th day of each week, interns will attend an offsite program day with their cohort.
These hours are separate from the internship hours.
